Barbara Bailey (Caspersen)  Moved away before graduating with class of 59 in Calais but have always kept in touch with classmates.  My home is in Hamilton, Ontario where I have 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.  I have been to the last two class reunions and enjoyed very much seeing everyone.  I try to get home at least once a year to visit my friends and home town and hope to continue.  Would love to hear from classmates.  

David Barnard is married to Nellie Cassidy and lives in Woodland.  He is an Electrician at Georgia Pacific.  David and Nellie have three grown children and six grandchildren.  They also enjoy camping and 4-wheeling. E-mail 


David F. Driscoll and his lovely wife Jeanette live in Calais.  They love the St. Croix Valley area and have always lived there.  They have three grown children, all living out of the area.  You may call them at 207-454-7336.

Vivian DwelleyPerkins, Love Lake, Crawford, ME. Hi I to all of class of 59. I have two children, Tracy lives in Fairbanks, Alaska and 1 son Richard in Hawaii. Carl & I own Carls Restaurant on Rt.9 in Baileyville. Would like to hear from other classmates.

Thomas B. Getchell, Sr. should have been 1959 but I moved away to Southington Ct. and now live in Wytheville Virginia,  I get back to Calais once in a while not much of the old gang left. Still a great little town that now looks better then it did when I was a kid. 

Teresa Kelly MacLean.  I live in Calais and have worked at Calais Regional Hospital as a Secretary and Coder since 1974.  I am finally retiring in June! My husband, Eddie MacLean, died in June 2000. I had previously been married to Daryl McClure and we have one daughter, two grandchildren and one great-grandson.  My grandson is a teacher at the Alexander Elementary School. My granddaughter will finish college next year with a teaching degree.  I have an 11-year-old English Springer Spaniel named "Patches".  The Class of '59 is having a 50th reunion August 8th.  We are making plans and hope to hear from classmates soon.  5/7/09$file/Careletter%2020090729.pdf

Marilyn "Lyn" McCullough Mann, Yarmouth, ME. After 33 years of marriage, my husband passed away in May of 2002 -- Multiple strokes over a long period. Have seasonal position as Executive Director of the Southern Maine Women's Golf Association. Barb Thompson Stone told me of this site. Think it's a great idea! 

John Pomeroy died October 17, 1976 in El Paso, Texas.  He was retired from the U. S. Border Patrol and a veteran of service in the USAF. He married Sandra Warren Class of 1960. Note from their son, Dan Pomeroy: Attended Calais High in 1979/1980, but graduated from Shead Mem. High. Dad was John Pomeroy. Mom is Sandra (Warren) Pomeroy. I spent six years in Marine Corps and now work for utility resource group in Ft.Worth, Tx. Am married with four children: Jessica 15, William 14, Rebekah 7, Benjamin 6. Two time state and one time national Tae Kwon Do champion. Would love to hear from classmates, but would also love to hear from Mom and Dad's classmates.

Jeanne Willena Ross.   I have been married 41years.  We have a daughter Carol and 6 grandchildren --  Matt19 Tom16 Emma15 John12 Vinnie9 and Gabriella. Jerry and I have lived I the same place for 48 years. We have a dog, Sheba and a cat, Kitt.  I'm semi retired. My email is; would love to hear from any of my classmates. 

Barbara Thompson Stone. Newburgh, New York. Hello again. I just got back from a week in southern Maine. Wow. How I enjoyed hearing that Maine twang again. Dick and I have been married 39 years. Our children are Adam 34) and Jenny (32). We are retired and enjoy lots of senior bus trips with the local rec center. I'd love to hear from everyone.

Ann E. Agnew Andrews (Nana), 75, of Westbrook passed away May 27, 2016, peacefully following a period of failing health. Born on May 4, 1941, to the late Nicholas J. and Dorothy P (Farris) Agnew of Red Beach, Maine. She attended Calais Grammar School and graduated from Calais memorial in 1959. Ann was a simple, loving, and kind lady who loved her family and friends. She enjoyed the company of her cats and was content with watching her game show network. She is predeceased by her husband Richard E. Andrews; and grandson Matthew R. Blanchard. She is survived by her one sister; niece, nephew; and great nephew; her six children, Robert A. Blanchard of Windham, Theresa P. Blanchard of Scarborough, Gary W. Blanchard of Saco, Jerry E. Blanchard of Portland, Ronald J. Blanchard of Windham, and Kimberly A. McCann of Portland. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. A Graveside service will be held on Saturday June 4, 10:30 a.m. at Brooklawn Memorial Park. Darlene Annas Campbell. Darleen G. Campbell, 57, died Jan. 29, 1998, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Dec. 13, 1940, at Calais, the daughter of Lloyd I. and Charlotte E. (Maloney) Annas. Darlene was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Calais and a member of the Catholic Women's Sodality. She will be fondly remembered by her fellow classmates of Calais High School, Class of 1959. Survivors include her mother of Calais, and Joseph R. Campbell Sr., the father of her two children, also of Calais; one son, Joseph R. Campbell Jr. and his wife, Diana M. Campbell of California; one daughter, Lisa J. Campbell of Connecticut; one brother, Burton J. Annas Sr. and his wife, Mary Helen of Calais; three grandchildren, Eric and Shane Cresser, both of Maryland, and Samantha Campbell of California; several nephews, nieces, and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Calais by the Rev. Brian Blanchette. Burial will be in Red Beach Cemetery. Friends called at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Scott-Wilson Funeral Home, Calais, where prayers were recited at 7:30 p.m. At the request of the family, donations in her memory to the charity of one's choice would be greatly appreciated. Mrs. Ruth Ardene Baker Doten, age 77, of Meddybemps, Maine, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017. She was at her winter residence, in Zephyrhills, Florida. Ruth was born April 13, 1940, in Milltown, Maine. She was the daughter of Harley Baker and Edna Cookson, and stepmother Margaret Baker. While she worked outside the home at times, Ruth’s family was her life’s work. She treasured time spent with all of them. Ruth loved reading and enjoyed crocheting afghans, giving them to family and friends. Ruth also donated many to Hospice, the Veteran’s Hospital, and local maternity ward nurseries for the newborn babies. Ruth counted her blessings every day, giving her time and support to those who needed a helping hand. Ruth leaves behind her husband, William “Bill” Doten Sr. of Meddybemps, ME, the love of her life for 58 years. Surviving are her children, Cathy Hunter and her husband Kelly of Lisbon Falls, ME, William “Billy” Doten JR. of Meddybemps, ME, Janelle Randall and her husband Mike of Honolulu, HI, foster child Cindy (Speer) Moore, two sisters, Nancy Mosher of Milltown, ME and Harlene Davis of San Francisco, Ca, and brother Ricard “Dick” Cookson of Falls Church, VA. She had eight grandchildren: Ian, Elizabeth, Gwynne, and Kaitlyn Hunter, Ashley and Christopher Doten, Zackery Kelley, Sonya and Maverick Randall, two great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ruth was predeceased by an infant son Billy, her in-laws Bob and Blanche Doten of Baileyville, ME, and her daughter in-law Jennifer Reynolds of Meddybemps, ME. Marilyn Barnard Simons. The death of Marilyn (Barnard) Simons, 62, of Wethersfield, Conn., widow of John H. Simons, occurred Friday, December 19,2003. She was born April 15, 1941, in Calais, Me. a daughter of Lawrence and Gertrude (White) Barnard. Marilyn was an employee of the Union Express Mart in Hartford, Conn. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law. Julia (Simons) and Edward Castro of Tolland, Conn., Laura Ann and Chris Coupe of Colchester, Conn., and Joanna Lynn and David Plage of Glastonbury, Conn.; two brothers, Maurice Barnard Gary Bar of Little Ridge, N.B.; three sisters, Betty Arseneau of St. Stephen. N.B., Sandra l.ibbv of Campobello lsland, N.B., and Sharon Doten of Amesbury Mass. She is also survived by six granchildren who were the light of her life, Daniel and Dillon Castro, Brianna and Ryan Coupe and Jonathan and James Plage. Funeral services were held on Dec. 23, 2003 at Rose Hill funeral Home, Rocky Hill. Conn. Burial followed in Rose Hill Memorial Park. [provided by Teresa Kelly MacLean] 

Ellen Mae Bartlett Johnson. At the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB., Saturday, August 19, 2017, Ellen Mae Johnson, wife of the late Eugene Franklin Johnson. Born in Baring, Maine, daughter of the late Earl and Flossie (Bridges) Bartlett. Survived by two sons, Ronald Johnson (Lindy) of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., Kenneth Johnson ( Kerri) of Milford, NH., grandchildren, Effie, Sean and Coty Johnson, Jessika Blizzard, Casey and Corey Johnson, Kaila Beam, great grandchildren, Wesley Johnson, Colt and Madelynn Blizzard, sisters; Billie Parks (Tom) of Calais, Me., Lil Tracey, St. Stephen, NB., Gert Johnston of Calais, Me., brother, Ralph Bartlett of New Hampshire., several nieces and nephews, special niece, Anita Kizziar. Predeceased by sister, Dorothy Campbell and brother, Earl Bartlett. A private family service will be held at a later date. Marjorie Diffin Crandlemire, 75 passed away June 9, 2017 at home. Marjorie was born in Calais, August 13, 1941, to Marthas and Amy (Seed) Diffin. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Charles Pitt and her daughter Connie. She is survived by her sister, Sharon and husband Dennis, Grandchildren Stephanie and her friend DJ and Kacey, two great grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Madison and Ryder. Per Marjorie's wishes, there will be no services.

Joseph W. McCoubrey, 74, passed away peacefully at his home on August 6, 2015. Joseph was born in Calais on August 20, 1940, son of the late Neville and Joan (Lawler) McCoubrey. Shortly after graduating from Calais Memorial High School, Class of 1959, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1986 with over 25 years of service. Joseph had a distinguishable career, serving three tours in Vietnam. He earned numerous meritorious awards and medals, including the Silver Star (V), 2 Bronze Stars, and 2 Purple Hearts. On March 10, 1972, he married KumCha Ha. Following his retirement Joseph became a civilian employee with the Department of Defense. In 2005, Joseph and KumCha moved to Calais. He attended the St. Croix Valley Assembly of God in Calais and enjoyed model airplanes, fishing, hunting, and spending quality time with his family. In addition to his parents, Joseph was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur and Philip. Surviving are his loving wife of 43 years, KumCha McCoubrey; one sister, Susan Dooley and husband Richard of Baileyville; three brothers, George McCoubrey and wife Pat of Calais, Charles McCoubrey and wife Linda of Calais, and Lee McCoubrey and wife Ning of Springfield, VA; sister-in-law ChongCha Choi of South Korea; brother-in-law Taebong Ha and wife Kyong of Anchorage, AK; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. Paul Francis Spear, 77, passed away at his home on February 20, 2019. Paul was born to Roy Spear and Marjorie (O’Neil) Bailey in St. Stephen, New Brunswick on July 2, 1941. He grew up in Calais where he lived with his grandparents Bernard and Martha O’Neil and graduated from Calais High School. He then went on to attend Holy Rosary Commercial School in St. Stephen. Paul spend a short time with Georgia Pacific in Baileyville before changing paths and taking a position at Maine Central Railroad where he eventually retired after many years of service. Paul was a private and reserved man, he loved animals and enjoyed a regular routine that included a daily ride around Calais at 4:00 pm on the dot. He was a huge fan of any New England sports team, particularly the Red Sox, Celtics, Patriots and Bruins but also a Notre Dame Football enthusiast, he had fond memories of traveling with his son, John, to attend one of their games. As a young man Paul was proud to have volunteered on the Calais Fire Department. He was a devoted parishioner at Immaculate Conception RC Church in Calais but would often attend church in St. Stephen as well. In addition to both his parents and his grandparents, Paul was predeceased by his Brother, William Bailey and a brother-in-law, Jim Scullin. He will be remembered by his two sons, Daniel Spear and his companion Dawn McIver of Calais and John Spear and his companion, Amy Hold of Baileyville; three grandsons, Nathan, Mitchel and Mason Spear; a great grandson, Caleb Spear; his sister, Catherine Scullin; his niece Jessica Bailey and nephew, Jamie Scullin. A memorial mass will be celebrated by Father J. Kevin Martin at 11:00 am, Thursday, February 28th at Immaculate Conception RC Church, Calais. Committal will be later in the spring at Calais Cemetery. Pauline Muriel Spinney Mahar, 73, passed away following a courageous battle with cancer Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Calais Regional Hospital with her family by her side. Pauline was born in Calais on November 15, 1940, daughter of the late Paul and Doris (Hickey) Spinney. On November 11, 1957, Pauline married Lawrence “Larry” Mahar in St. Stephen, NB. She worked for many years for W.T. Grant Co., Kelly’s Apparel, and Calais Regional Hospital. One of her greatest accomplishments was running Thunderwing Kennels in Baring where she made many friends in her dog grooming business from which she retired after 25 years. Pauline was a life member of Calais Rod & Gun Club, Northeast Grouse Field Trail Assoc., and the National Ruffed Grouse Assoc. Pauline is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Lawrence “Larry” Mahar; three children, Jerry Mahar and wife Cheryl of Robbinston, Ronnie Mahar and wife Sue of Baileyville, and Laurie Clark and husband Gene of South Princeton; six grandchildren, Julie Myers and husband Chris of Orono, Kacey Hutchins and husband Ronnie of Bucksport, Kylie James and husband Matt of Rochester, NH, Kelsy Snowman and companion Jesse of Bangor, Jeremy Clark and wife Megan of South Princeton, and Gena Maloney and husband Benjamin of Calais; four great-grandchildren, Maddison Clark, Parker Hutchins, and Londyn and Sawyer James; brother Paul Spinney of Kenduskeag; sister Barbara McLellan and husband Allen of Alexander; sister-in-law Jo Anne Spinney of Calais; brothers-in-law David Mahar of Calais, and Carl Mahar and wife Natalie of Calais; and many nieces and nephew. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2014 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of Pauline’s life will be held in the funeral home 1 p.m. Saturday, April 5. A spring burial will take place in Baring Cemetery.
