Deceased Classmates

CALAIS - William Eugene Townsend, 27, passed away Friday, May 1, 2009, at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, after a valiant two-year battle with leukemia. He was born May 30, 1981, to Vicky Townsend and Wayne Demmons. While in high school, Billy became the first firefighter explorer for the city of Calais Fire Department. After graduating from Calais High School in 2000, he followed his dream and became a firefighter with the Lincoln Fire Department. On June 14, 2003, he married Alicia Mylen. Billy eventually returned home to Calais and recently worked for Richard Mingo Construction. He was a call firefighter for Calais Fire Department, a member of Calais Lion's Club and attended Calais Methodist Church. Billy had a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, hanging with his friends and most importantly, spending time with his family. Billy was predeceased by his mother, Vicky; an aunt, grandparents and great-grandparents. Surviving are his loving wife, Alicia, who was by his side every step of the way; his daughter, Victoria; his son, William; his grandparents who raised him, Martha and Dennis McIntyre; grandfather, Gerald Townsend and Vicki; grandparents-in-law, Donna and Bill Mylen; uncles, Ricky and Danielle, David and Catherine, and Stephen and Tara; aunts, Kim and Billy McVicar, Michelle and Gregg Hornbrook, Pam and Ernest Landry, Nancy and Stephen Lincoln, Susan Pottle, Natalie and Jon Erb, and Sharon and Paul Waycott; his brother, Jessie; sister, Amber; his father, Wayne and Jonelle; stepsister, Jessica; a special nephew, Wyatt Eugene; sister-in-law, Michelle; special cousins, David, Melissa, Adam, Sara, Derrick, Nick, Alex, Maddy, Sophie, Jennifer, Darcy and Austin; several other cousins and many special friends, too numerous to mention. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, at Calais United Methodist Church, 849 Main St., Calais, where a celebration of Billy's life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Karen MacDuff officiating. Burial will be afterward at Calais Cemetery, after which, the procession will be led to Calais Fire Department, where Billy will receive the Firefighter's Last Call. After the Firefighter's Last Call, friends are invited to the Calais American Legion for a gathering. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Homes, Calais and Eastport. Condolences and memories may be shared at [Published in the Bangor Daily News on 5/4/2009]
