What's Happening

Matthew Francis Ryan son of Matthew and Catherine Dewyer Ryan was born 14 May 1858 at Baring Maine. He received an academic education at the Calais High School. Beginning the study of medicine in 1886, he attended three courses of lectures at the Medical School of Maine where he received his degree in 1889. He practiced his profession for four years at Sherman, for five years at Rumford Falls and had hardly established himself at Millinocket when he fell a victim to typhoid fever dying 18 March 1901 aged 42 years 10 months and 4 days. Dr Ryan was a communicant in the Catholic church and from early youth displayed the deep and sincere religious temperament that characterized his manhood and won the respect of those who intimately knew him. Though not possessed of a robust constitution, by his persistence and determination he won success where many would have met with failure. As a physician he was faithful and sympathetic and as a citizen public spirited. He served on the school board several years and was a member of the Maine Medical Association. Dr Ryan married 28 June 1893 Rosalie Mary daughter of John and Catherine Rush of Benedicta who survives with two children Mary Mildred Ryan and Terry Cullen Ryan.
