Olive M. Smythe, 76, a long-time resident of Bangor, died Dec. 27. at a nursing home in West Paris. She was born Jan. 25, 1899, at Calais, the daughter of A. Smythe and Mary Wilson Smythe. She was graduated from Calais Academy, and was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Bangor and the Zonta Association. Surviving are a sister Miss Berla Smythe of Hebron; a nephew Stuart Wilson Smythe of Ashland, KY. Funeral services will be Tuesday 2 pm at the Jordan Funeral Home, Ellsworth. Burial will be in Woodbine Cemetery, Ellsworth.
Ada Harrison Taylor Birdsey, 97, formerly of Ridgeway Avenue, Sanford, died Wednesday at Riverridge. She was born in Calais, a daughter of Frank and Lula Olmstead Taylor, and graduated from Calais Academy in 1917. Mrs. Birdsey worked for the War Department in Washington from 1912 to 1922. She then attended the New York City Hospital School of Nursing. She lived in Rochester, N.H., for many years. She was active in Girl Scout work there as a council member and leader.
